Episode Recorder Support
Install and get started
- Install Episode Recorder from its Chrome Web Store listing after the listing becomes available.
- Sign in to the supported learning portal using your own account and open a video playback page.
- Confirm that you own the content or have explicit permission to record it.
- Open the Episode Recorder popup and review the detected series and recording range.
Use the main feature
- Choose “Current video to end,” a chapter, or an episode range.
- Select 1× or 2× playback. Use 1× when the learning portal or your authorization requires normal playback behavior.
- Optionally select an output folder. Without a selected folder, completed files are exported below
Downloads/Episode Recorder/. - Select Start. Keep Chrome running and monitor progress from the popup.
- Use Pause, Resume, or Stop at any time. An interrupted task can be resumed from its locally saved state.
Permissions
- Supported site access: reads the episode catalog, playback URL, rendered video, and playback state only on the supported HTTPS learning portal.
- Downloads: saves completed local media files without a Save As prompt when no external folder is selected.
- Debugger: sends a bounded trusted click to the current supported video only when normal playback cannot start; the extension detaches immediately after the attempt.
- Tabs: briefly checks open-tab URLs and titles to find and manage the supported playback page; unrelated tab metadata is not stored or transmitted.
- Storage: keeps settings, task progress, recovery metadata, and folder permission on the device.
- Alarms: schedules bounded playback and transition timeouts while a task is active.
- Notifications: reports completion, interruption, or an error that needs attention.
Troubleshooting
The popup cannot detect a series
Open the actual video playback page, wait for its catalog and player to load, and reopen the popup. The extension intentionally does not run on unrelated pages.
Playback does not start
Bring the playback tab to the front and use the portal's play control once. Episode Recorder may perform up to three trusted click attempts on the supported video, then pauses the task instead of retrying indefinitely.
A task was interrupted
Reopen the supported playback page and the extension popup. Resume the paused task. Completed episodes are skipped; a precisely attributed incomplete episode is recorded again from the beginning.
No file appears in Downloads
Check Chrome's download settings, available disk space, and Downloads/Episode Recorder/. You can also select an external output folder before starting another task.
Delete local data and uninstall
- Stop any active recording task.
- Select “Create another task” to clear the current task record.
- Delete completed files manually from Downloads or the selected output folder.
- Open
chrome://extensions, find Episode Recorder, and select Remove.
Uninstalling does not delete completed recordings that were exported to normal filesystem folders.
Supported environments
Episode Recorder is designed for desktop Chrome and the supported learning portal's video playback pages. Published compatibility claims are limited to environments verified for the current release. It does not support DRM bypass, unrelated websites, mobile browsers, or cloud recording.
